Music:
Ever heard a live drum and brass band marching through Birmingham City’s streets? If you have,
you’ll know why such an awesome echo and sound inspired me as a youngster to take up drumming.
The very first record I bought was The World of Military Bands which included themes such as
Thunderbirds, Bridge over the River kwai, and Birdcage Walk. I just wanted to make noise and
inspire others like I had years before.

In my older years my interests turned to the constant diet of Beatles, Hollies and The Rolling stones
courtesy of my older sister. Of course, I was influenced by Ringo Starr who I admired for his flowing
easy beat style as well as the crisp and precise beats of the Hollies. But for the most part my
admiration for his ability and playing style has to lye with a man called Ronnie Tutt. Elvis’ drummer
during his Las Vegas years. I have to say I think my natural style is a mix of all these influences I’ve
listened to over the years.
What I love about being a drummer is the journey of discovering all forms of music I’ve experienced
through the years. I started playing in guitar-based band in the early 80’s as an Indie / garage Band.
Moved into covers bands playing Rock n Roll, Prog Rock, Soul and Funk and enjoyed every moment.

Of the few I recall was The Hollies Birmingham Odeon during the early 80s. Superb harmonies great
overall sound of their many hits through the years. The best of all was hearing ‘He Ain’t Heavy’ live.
